Abstract
This study aimed to develop a problem gambling ontology in order to establish a framework for the efficient and effective collection and analysis of social big data related to problem gambling. Based on the method of Noy and McGuinness(2001), we collected 426 academic papers, 5,374 news articles, and 61,643 social media posts from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2021. The Python program version 3.10.1 and the beautifulsoup package version 4.10.0 were used to collect social media data. The TF-IDF method was then applied to extract terms. In order to enhance the usefulness and applicability of ontology, the initial proposal was revised and supplemented through evaluation by six experts in the field of problem gambling, the ontology was confirmed by comparing the concepts and terms derived from the data, which was divided into test data in 2021. The study resulted in the derivation of ontology in the following areas: (1) definitions (gambling types, disease concepts, symptoms, diagnosis), (2) stakeholders (service users, service providers, service-related institutions), (3) influencing factors (psychological, social, biological factors), and (4) harmful effects (health, relationships, finances, legal matters) and prevention and treatment systems. This study is significant as it is the first to develop and evaluate ontology in the field of problem gambling. Based on the results of ontology construction, the study also discusses implications and measures for utilization.
